Spirit of the Book and Indoor Sculpture Exhibition

Spirit of the Book featured seven juried book artists who are members of the Vermont Book Arts Guild: Janet Ballantyne & David Sokol, Jerry Geier, Lara Henderson, Sally Knight, Marti Nash, Nancy Stone, and Janet Van Fleet.

Books by juror Ken Leslie (shown, right) was also on display. Leslie’s books are in many private and public collections, including the Bailey Howe Special Collection of the University of Vermont and the Museum of Fine Art in New York City. The show also featured intricately-designed books on loan from the collections of The Waskowmium and from the Book Arts Collection, Special Collections, UVM. Leslie presented a gallery talk at the opening reception Thursday, August 10.

Along with the Artist Books, the gallery presented indoor sculpture to complement the On The Green exhibition of outdoor sculpture. Gregory Roberts was one of four sculpture artists featured indoors in the Shelburne Art Center Gallery. Roberts, a San Francisco based artist, has been exhibiting professionally since 1994 and is an Associate Professor of Ceramics at Sonoma State University. Works by Pat deGogorza, Tabbatha Henry, and Denis Versweyveld (shown, right) are included.
