Jules Polk

Jules Polk first fell in love with Vermont and pottery in 1997 in Brattleboro where she was studying International Non-Profit Management at the School for International Training. While earning her master’s degree, Jules began taking pottery classes with Josh Gold in Putney, and soon was spending as much time in the studio as the classroom. While she was overseas, Jules worked with indigenous potters in Sri Lanka and Turkey. Upon returning to the states, she went to Montana to take classes at the Archie Bray Institute, and apprenticed with Cheri Long.

Ed Demler

Ed Demler is a local artist and craftsman who has been building objects from wood and metal since childhood.  Demler discovered the craft of stained glass in 2002 when he attended a Shelburne Art Center class, and has since created windows, cabinet doors, lampshades, lanterns, boxes, and other items from glass.  Additionally, Demler has worked in lighting and set design/construction for numerous community theatre productions throughout Waterbury and Stowe.

Robert Huntoon

Robert Huntoon is a native Vermont painter. Having build his own technique in the classic Flemish tradition—with its emphasis on creating a sense of light with layered, transparent color—Huntoon has found much success in his art, bringing a significant level of craftsmanship to each painting. Huntoon has displayed his work in exhibitions and galleries throughout the United States,  has been featured in multiple publications, including American Artist Magazine and The Art of Lake Champlain, and has been the recipiant of awards including the 1994 – ’95, Fellowship for Work in Painting from the Vermont Arts Council, the The Image of Vermont Agriculture (commission) in 2002 from the Vermont Arts Council, and the Juror’s award in 2007 at the 51st National Open at Southern Vermont Arts Center. In addition to his classes and workshops taught at the Shelburne Art Center, he has taught for Trinity College, Musika Discovery Program, Community College of Vermont and Continuing Education Programs for Burlington High School, Champlain Valley Union, and The University of Vermont.

Renee Lauzon

Renee Lauzon is a native of Southern Vermont. She received her undergraduate degree in Fine Art and Art History from Burlington College in 2008. Both poet and painter, she is working towards her MFA in painting through Vermont College of Fine Art. She actively writes and paints in her home studio, and maintains a poetry blog called The Peel of Stillness. In 2009 her first book of poems titled “From Absence to Oceans” was published by local independent non-profit publisher, Star Chamber Press. She has a background in early arts education and is currently teaching and programming youth arts classes at the Shelburne Art Center. She will graduate with her MFA in 2012.

Sarah Sprague

Sarah Sprague has been working with art of all mediums for as long as she can remember. Sprague first went to school for art with a focus in black and white photography and graphic design and eventually graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Vermont. She later went back to school to achieve an MFA in Education from Johnson State College.  Sarah is certified in k-12 art education and currently teaches classes on a variety of mediums including metal arts, stained glass, ceramics, and more.

Abby Manock received her MFA from Columbia University in 2007. Her drawings and sculpture have been included in select exhibitions in New York, London, Berlin, Los Angeles, Miami, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and most recently at MARTE Contemporáneo in San Salvador, El Salvador.  Her large scale, interactive and game-like performative projects have been showcased by the Deitch Projects Art Parade in NYC in 2006, Performagia 2008 in Mexico City, the William Benton Museum of Art, Storrs, CT, as well as several major concert venues across the US.  She has lectured at the Art Center of South Florida, Bowdoin College, and the University of Connecticut, and is an adjunct drawing professor at Columbia University. She splits her time between Burlington, Vermont and Brooklyn, NY.Mike Glod has been an avid hobbyist woodworker for more than a decade.  Some of his favorite furniture includes the work of George Nakashima as well as the Shaker and Danish Modern styles.  An admitted tool junky, Mike uses a combination of power and hand tools,  relying on power tools to do the heavy lifting and using hand tools for fine work.  Lately he has been incorporating wood turning into his projects.  When he’s not making sawdust, Mike enjoys being a dad, following the Philadelphia Phillies, and thinking about his next furniture project.

Barbara Nedd

Barbara Nedd paints in several mediums, but has enjoyed watercolors specifically for many years.  Originally from New Hampshire, she started her education at the Portland School of Art in Portland, Maine.  From there she has taken classes from teachers such as Tom Lynch, Jeanne Dobie and Jeanne Carbonetti to name a few.  Since completing her New England Culinary degree, she is working on her education at Johnson State College to pursue her career in art.

Caitlin Betsy Bell

Caitlin Betsy Bell BFA Fibers 2011 Savannah College of Art and Design:  Caitlin was born in northeast Pennsylvania, and raised all across the U.S. She grew up elbow-deep in the dirt and the craft drawer. She has a love of all things crafty and has her own business making handmade toys called Nifty Kidstuff.

Nancy McFadden earned her degree in Art and Museum Education with an emphasis in ceramics in 1979 from Wheelock College in Boston, and has since worked towards her MFA in Art Education at the Maryland Art Institute with an emphasis in Fine Arts. Nancy’s experience in art education comprise a wide range of ages and include the following settings: Education Department at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Fulton County Art Department in Atlanta, Georgia, Child Life Department Art Therapy at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and the Frederick and Baltimore Counties Art Departments in Maryland. Nancy currently teaches children’s and adult hand-building classes at the Shelburne Art Center.

Robert Carsten

Robert K. Carsten, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, the Connecticut Pastel Society, and an Honorary lifetime member of the Southwest Florida Pastel Society. He is currently serving on the Board of Governors of the Pastel Society of America. A regular contributing writer for The Pastel Journal and the Artist’s Magazine, he is also a popular workshop instructor. Robert has won many awards including First Prize/ Pastel in the 2008 Prismacolor For Art’s Sake National Competition; Juror’s Choice Award at the 2009 national juried exhibition of the Southern Vermont Arts Center; and Best in Show at the Northeast National Pastel Exhibition. He received his training at the Art Students League of NY, the Rhode Island School of Design and through a Technical Scholarship from the Rotary International, at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara, Italy.

Sage Tucker-Ketcham

Sage Tucker-Ketcham BFA Maine College of Art; MFA, Massachusetts College of Art and Design.  Sage has shown at the Grannis Gallery, Burlington, VT; Hastings in the Alley, Martha’s Vineyard, MA; Amy E. Tarrant Gallery, Burlington, VT; Burlington International Airport, So. Burlington, VT; and the PAAM, Provincetown, MA. She has been reviewed in Seven Days, Art New England, and Art Scope Magazine, and interviewed on San Diego Art Talk Radio. Sage has done Art Residencies at the Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown, MA and the Shelburne Museum, Shelburne, VT, and participated in “Process/Progress” Firehouse Artist Residency, Burlington, VT. Her work is internationally collected.  Sage Has taught painting, drawing, fashion for all ages including college students and adults.  Sage is also the Executive Director of Shelburne Art Center.
