Design and create an exquisite silver cuff bracelet while acquiring
basic jewelry skills. Students will learn to saw, drill, pierce, file,
form, sand, solder and polish sterling silver sheet metal. A basic understanding
of the torch and soldering techniques will be covered as students learn
to anneal or soften the metal so that it can be formed on a bracelet
mandrel. Smaller shapes, cut with a jeweler's saw can be soldered onto
the bracelet to create layered depth. Metal wire and sheet in brass,
bronze, copper and nickel silver may be used as well as patina to create
dramatic color distinctions. Hammering techniques and stamping tools
may also be used to achieve pattern and texture. The bracelet may incorporate
pierced areas or negative space,as well as, wire or beads that can be
soldered on; all enhancing the exciting embellishment of a simple band
of sterling silver. Students will receive one 12" x 2" piece
of 24 gauge sterling silver sheet metal as the bracelet blank; a piece
large enough to fit most wrists while leaving extra material for smaller
shapes to be used as decorative elements. Come with drawings or design
ideas! The cost of any additional silver will be the responsibility
of the student.
